PhD: the exploitation
The curiosity of finding new things brought most to PhD. Universities take full advantage of that, by asking you to do ‘teaching assistantship’ and paying you peanuts. After 6/7 years of exploitation like that, it’s hard to keep respect for the ‘process of finding new things’.
There is no career at the end of the tunnel. Half of PhDs don’t know what to do, so chug along in post-docs. Pathetic pathetic end of a ‘smart person’.
