The PhD factory: the irate comments

by phdscam

This is the original nature.com article and we discussed the article before. Here we discuss very few comments that came on this.

The analysis presented in the article seems a bit sterile, and discusses PhD‘s as if the students are simply products. As a professor, I found this somewhat troubling. Aside from the job aspect, it ignores the value of having a more educated public, which can affect the entire society.  In general, more education leads to an increase in lifetime income, and can lead to improvements in society in general. -Scott Rogers

This is a blatant fraudulent advice from a professor who wants cheap labor.

When I finished my PhD, I had some trouble getting a postdoc position, and then ended up working as a postdoc for 5 years because there were no academic jobs.

This is typical!
